Message from the Director

North Japan Research Institute for Sustainable Energy (NJRISE) was established in October 2010 to overcome negative characteristics such as heavy snowfall and cold weather in northern Japan through research and development on renewable and saving energy, and to contribute to construct indigenous and dispersive type local energy industries.  An institute of universities labeled with the two keywords, “North Japan” andMuraokaL “Sustainable Energy”, is only one base in Japan so far.

Five months later on 11 March 2011 after the construction of NJRISE, Japan faced the unprecedented Tsunami by the Great East Japan Earthquake and the subsequent Fukushima Nuclear Reactor Disaster.  These happenings also brought us a serious energy crisis in Japan, and unintentionally demonstrated the foresight to construct NJRISE.

Heaven brings not only severe nature and climate in northern Japan but also plentiful renewable energy resources.  We shall now develop and use the plentiful renewable energy resources such as wind, geothermal, biomass, ocean current and solar energy, and we shall dramatically change energy infrastructure of northern Japan.

NJRISE is conducting research and development on renewable and saving energy dramatically to change energy infrastructure of northern Japan.  These research projects shall be done in collaboration with local communities and in order to contribute to local communities.  We appreciate your support and collaboration.
